The weekend of June 29 and 30, 2024 will be an unmissable opportunity to rediscover the traditions, history and flavors of this land, with a series of activities designed to offer you an unforgettable sensory and emotional experience.
The Taste Itineraries
The sensory journey begins Saturday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at Trattoria da Zia Luciana on San Daniele Street. Here, you will be able to participate in a cooking workshop, learning how to prepare a traditional siddish dish, followed by a convivial lunch (reservations required). On Sunday, June 30, at 11 a.m., the Museum of Agro-Food Traditions of Sardinia on Via Roma will host a workshop dedicated to the preparation of typical siddese pasta (reservations required). The day will end with a walk among the ancient olive trees of the Olive Park at 7 p.m., accompanied by a tasting of local olive oil (reservations required).
Pathways of History and Culture
If you are a history buff, Siddi offers an immersion into the past with guided tours and archaeological workshops. On Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Casa Steri (Museum of Agro-Food Traditions of Sardinia) will open its doors for hourly guided tours of the ancient tools of grain harvesting and processing. On Saturday at 9:30 a.m., a visit to Sa Fogaia Archaeological Park will allow you to experience a day as an archaeologist with the guidance of Dr. Emily Holt. On Sunday at 10 a.m., a guided walk through the historic center of Siddi, in collaboration with the City of Raw Earth Association, will introduce you to the monuments and houses made of raw earth (reservations required).
Connections between the Past and the Future
On Saturday, June 29, at 7:30 p.m., at Casa Garau on Vittorio Emanuele III Street, attend a meeting dedicated to the value of memory and genealogical research, featuring authors Arcangelo Cau, Marco Cau and Raffaele Cau Bua. This dialogue, aimed at exploring root tourism as a tool for socio-cultural renewal and tourism development, will offer insights into how roots can help revitalize Sardinia’s inland areas.
The Ancient Sounds of the Island of Sardinia
Traditional music and dances will be featured with exhibitions and workshops at Casa Garau. On Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., masters Totore Chessa and Nanni Aru will display traditional musical instruments such as Organittos and Launeddas, with impromptu performances and a Launeddas-making workshop at 5 p.m. On Sunday at 6 p.m., the “A passo di danza” workshop will introduce you to traditional Sardinian dances, accompanied by the music of masters Chessa and Aru.
Celebrations for the patron saint “Sa Gloriosa”
From June 29 to July 2, 2024, Siddi will celebrate its patron saint with cultural events and workshops dedicated to Siddese emigrants and the local community. These celebrations will be an opportunity to strengthen ties with your roots and participate in a journey to learn and deepen the importance of historical memory.
