The Olive Festival, with the enhancement of root offerings will create a proposal that will allow Italian descendants to feel integrated into the community of origin by forming lasting bonds that will reinforce an awareness of the traditions of their places of origin.
The three-day event with a folkloric, enogastronomic, naturalistic and cultural character takes place in a unique setting: the natural monument of S’Ortu Mannu and is an opportunity to enhance local productions and promote intangible heritage.
Initiatives will be enhanced to ensure immersive experiences for root travelers:
- Special opening of the municipal historical archives during the week of the festival to encourage genealogical research;
- presentation of genealogical research results, with the involvement of Italian communities living abroad who will be able to tell the community about their experience as Sardinians in the world;
- workshops for the preparation and tasting of the Traditional Agri-food Products of Villamassargia (Olives of s’Ortu Mannu Pestate and Bread with Olives of Villamassargia);
- workshops for making local handicrafts;
- Performance of folk groups with Sardinian dance workshop;
- participatory literature festival “Encounters in the Middle-Earth,” generally dedicated to schools will be open to young root travelers;
- Plays by Sardinian playwrights.

How to get there
Villamassargia is located on the main communication routes. It is easily accessible from Cagliari and the airport via highway 130 but also by train, as there is a train station. The event site can be reached by car or by a rubber-tired train that, for the occasion, connects the center of Villamassargia with the event site.
