Inland Gallura: history and tradition one step away from the Costa Smeralda

The experience

Gallura, the north-eastern region of the island, is today famous above all for the Costa Smeralda, born in the 60s as a holiday resort for the most important exponents of the world jet-set.
Few people know that Gallura is an ancestral land, with some of the most important Nuragic archaeological sites, in particular the nuraghe la Prisgiona and the Tomb of the Giants of Coddu Ecchiu, dating back to the Bronze Age.

 

Thanks to this route you will be able to discover and touch the traditions of this land:

  • Its pastoral tradition that has shaped the landscape and culture;
  • The art of weaving, which has been practiced for centuries in many countries;
  • Traditional cuisine, with its typical dishes such as Gallura soup;

Tour

Olbia

A visit to one of Gallura’s most renowned wineries, famous for its DOCG vermentino.
Here we will visit the winery and learn about the different stages of winemaking, before moving to the vineyards for a wine tasting with picnic among the vines.

San Pantaleo

A visit to San Pantaleo, a small village famous for its art galleries and craft workshops: here you will meet local artisans and learn more about their work.
At the end of the day there is some free time in the village, to relax walking through its alleys and breathe in the atmosphere of this small village located in the mountains behind the famous Costa Smeralda and surrounded by the unique shapes of granite blocks shaped by time and wind.

Cooking class and lunch

Cooking class in a typical Gallura farmhouse, during which you will learn how to prepare Gallura soup, a traditional dish of this area of Sardinia.
Here you can also visit a typical stazzo, a traditional Gallura dwelling, and learn about its main features.

Nuraghe and tomb of the giants

Guided tour of two of Gallura’s most important nuragic sites: the nuraghe la Prisgiona and the Tomb of the Giants of Coddu Ecchiu

Luras

Guided tour of the thousand-year-old olive trees of Luras, one of which, named “The Patriarch”, is considered one of the longest-lived trees in the world, at 4000 years old.

Aggius

After a lunch in a typical restaurant in the center of town, a guided tour of the village of Aggius, a quaint inland Gallura town, characterized by its granite historic center and famous for the art of weaving.
After a guided tour of the village, you will visit the MEOC, one of the most important ethnographic museums on the island, where you will also attend a workshop on wool weaving and dyeing.
