The future of root tourism

Italea Sardinia Final Event

The final event of the ITALEA Sardinia project, will be held in Asuni (OR), at the Museum of Emigration, October 10-12, 2025.

The initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and implemented in Sardinia by the third sector organization Cumbidu, celebrates root tourism as an opportunity to develop inland areas, enhance identity heritage and strengthen ties with Sardinian communities around the world.

Program

Friday, October 10 (from 4:00 p.m.)

  • Experiential workshops
  • Screenings and testimonies of emigrants
  • Convivial evening with music and traditional cuisine

Saturday, October 11 (from 9:30 a.m.)

  • National conference: policies for root tourism
  • The ITALEA project
  • The Sardinian Roots Initiative
  • Roundtable discussion on the Museum of Emigration in Asuni
  • Testimonies from emigrant communities
  • Cultural and musical evening

Sunday, October 12 (from 9:30 a.m.)

  • Guided tours with Open Monuments
  • Excursions and co-design activities
  • Presentation of a historical novel
  • Closing Ceremony with the Recommendations of Asuni.
