Monteleone Rocca Doria will carry out various identity experiences such as baking workshops, both traditional and artistic, with the presence of folk associations, working holidays in the countryside and urban trekking.
First, two baking workshops will be offered: traditional and artistic. Monteleone Rocca Doria has a long tradition of bread-making, especially ceremonial bread, so much so that in 2011 it opened the “Bread Museum-Documentation Center of Traditional Bread-making in Sardinia.” This museum, which has been closed for years, is reopened only on special occasions, and inside there is a kitchen that lends itself to experiential activities, where root tourists can try their hand at the art of baking by also making decorated bread, in use in Sardinia for major celebrations.
The workshops will be held by some of the village women who guard the knowledge of this centuries-old tradition, with a positive implication: in fact, women could seize in experiential tourism a job opportunity, also in relation to the territorial development policies that the Union of Villanova Municipalities is pursuing.
The event will also feature a parade of traditional costumes and masks worn by children from all over Sardinia. In this context, root tourists will be able to admire the variety of traditional clothing and be involved in the Sardinian dance that will conclude the event.
The second proposed activity is a working holiday at a local farm. The shepherd will involve the root tourists in the daily activities of the farm and teach them the whole process of cheese making, starting with hand milking.
Third and final activity will be an inclusive urban trek (with citizens and root tourists): the trek will tell the story of the town’s architectural heritage and highlight “ghost houses.” Monteleone R. D. in fact, has only 102 inhabitants and like so many municipalities in Sardinia suffers the serious problem of depopulation. Properties for sale will also be narrated during the urban trek as an investment opportunity for the target audience.
